The Hollywood Reporter reports that actor Earle Hyman passed away on Friday at the Lillian Booth Actors Home in Englewood, New Jersey. He was 91.
Hyman was best known to TV audiences as Russell Huxtable on The Cosby Show, also appearing on the show’s spin-off A Different World. He was nominated for an Emmy award for the episode “Happy Anniversary.” His other TV credits include The Defenders, All My Children, A Man Called Hawk, and as Reverend Mitchell on Cosby.
Hyman was an accomplished stage actor, playing Othello numerous times. He also appeared in plays like Anna Lucasta, The Merchant of Venice, and the original production of No Time for Sergeants.
Hyman was best known as the voice of Panthro on the hit cartoon series ThunderCats. He also voiced Lunatak member Red-Eye and the Ancient Spirits of Evil. In 1985, he teamed up with his fellow ThunderCats cast members in the holiday special The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus.
